ACVE Host Projects

ACVE currently collaborates with 17 project partners throughout New Zealand, from Christchurch in the South Island up to Great Barrier Island, 100km off the coast of Auckland. When you volunteer in New Zealand, you will have the opportunity to work on one of the following host projects:

We work with a number of youth and adventure camps across New Zealand. These camps offer children and young people the opportunity to build self-confidence, self-esteem and learn new skills whilst living in a challenging and beautiful outdoors environment.

Finlay Park Adventure Camp
Finlay Park is an adventure camp located on the edge of Lake Karapiro running children’s holiday camps, school camps and other residential training camps.

El Rancho
El Rancho facilitates adventurous school and community camps. Volunteers are trained through the El Rancho outdoor activities instructor programme.

Mi Camp - Lake Taupo
Mi Camp (formally Lake Taupo Christian Camp) has the primary purpose to benefit the young people of New Zealand physically, socially, and spiritually. They provide safe and stimulating outdoor experiences for people of all ages, with the aim of enhancing self-esteem, developing communication, co-operation and group skills and promoting spiritual awareness.

Living Springs Trust
Living Springs is a beautiful camp and conference centre running a wide range of outdoor camps and programmes. An interest in outdoor pursuits would be an advantage as would interest and ability in graphics and design, conservation, administration as well as cooking, culinary and hospitality skills.

Lakes Ranch
Situated in Rotorua, one of New Zealand's most important cultural cities, Lakes Ranch is a rambling farm of rolling hills and both wild and man-made lakes. It is a haven for horse lovers and those with a mindset to work hard and play hard. Lakes Ranch offers a simple environment for school groups, church groups and the famous Tough Guy and Gal Challenge!

Tui Ridge Park
One of our newest projects, and also located just outside of Rotorua, Tui Ridge is an adventure camp with guns blazing! If you want action with tonnes of different activities within a park-like setting, then this is the place! Catering for school groups, church groups, sports teams and corporate team-building, this is a massive multi-function camp that offers it all! Not for the faint-hearted, this is where you need to be up for the challenge and ready for a whole heap of fun!

Working as a teacher aide in a New Zealand school is a great way to share your culture, language and life skills with young kiwis.

Amuri Area School
Living as a member of a rural school community in the South Island enables you to really participate in the education and sporting and cultural activities of the students. A love of the outdoors and sports is required for this teaching role.

Hohepa Home School
Hohepa's vision is to enable people with intellectual disabilities to develop to their fullest potential and have quality of life in a holistic caring environment. The vocational and personal development of each individual with special needs is a prime focus with curative education and social therapy principles fundamental to our work. Teaching at Hohepa School is based upon the principles of Rudolf Steiner.

Waitara Central School
At Waitara Central School the volunteer will be based in a rural community and working with the children in many areas. The school involves many aspects of Maori culture and has a strong community focus. This project requires someone who wants to experience the warmth of a small New Zealand town and become an integral part of the community.

Cheviot Area School
Cheviot is another of our schools located in a small rural town in the South Island. Acting as an all-round helper, the volunteer here will become fully submerged in the school and community. This role relies on someone who is ready to push outside of their comfort zone and get involved!

An opportunity to work with children or adults within the community who require a special kind of care.

Mount Tabor Trust
Mount Tabor provides a quality intentional community lifestyle for intellectually disabled adults within the wider community. Seeking always to nurture and reveal their particular gifts, volunteers will be involved with all aspects of creative, social and vocational living including, sports, work, educational courses, art and music.

Orama Christian Trust
Orama is a service oriented Registered Charitable Trust that cares deeply for people and through its Christian motivation and unique setting, facilities and personal development programmes seeks to positively influence people as they receive rest, restoration, challenge and training.

Cholmondeley Children's Centre
Cholmondeley's core service is the provision of emergency and planned short term respite care for children aged 3-12, whose families are experiencing significant stress or difficulties. These issues may include financial stress, mental health issues, severe illness, substance abuse and addiction, or death of a parent/guardian. The average stay for a child is from several days to 2 weeks, including weekends.

Ad Astra Boarding Hostel
Ad Astra is the boarding hostel for female students attending Wanganui Girls College. Being a volunteer here is all about being a mentor and role model - acting as a big sister to the girls that stay here. A very rewarding project if you're prepared to build relationships and help wherever it is needed.

In-Zone Project
One of ACVE's newest projects, In-Zone is a boarding hostel that works with underprivileged Maori and Pacific Island teenage boys so that they can attend one of NZ's most elite schools, Auckland Grammar. Usually these boys may not be able to facilitate attendance to the college, but the hostel allows them to be "in-zone" to the school. An amazing project where you will become submerged in the everyday lives of the boys and will need to act as mentor, friend, role model, teacher, disciplinarian and surrogate family!

St. Columba's Church
Located in Taradale, near to Napier on the beautiful East Coast of the North Island, the St. Columba's project is all about working with the Church's youth program and assisting in other areas where your skills can be used. A wonderful community project where the volunteer will stay with a host family. Volunteers must love working with children and teenagers and be prepared to be proactive and imaginative in what you can offer them.

Conservation projects are an opportunity to help create, preserve and restore New Zealand’s natural environment.

McLaren Falls Park
McLaren Falls Park is 190 hectares of pastoral and horticultural land set alongside Lake Mclaren. As an Assistant Ranger, you will be working with Park Rangers in a wide variety of outdoor tasks to help maintain, improve and conserve a beautiful and significant New Zealand park.
